Class Q conversions
A new home in the countryside where planning policies normally dictate that may not be possible under what is known as a Class Q conversion. Under legislation introduced by the Government an agricultural building may be converted to a new dwelling without the need for planning permission subject to certain restrictions. You can create up to five dwellings in one agricultural building subject to size restrictions.
The existing agricultural building must, in structural terms, already be “capable of functioning as a dwelling”. This means is that the building as it stands must be capable of conversion. The agricultural building has to have been used for agricultural purposes in March 2012.
Class Q conversions are a difficult area of planning and require knowledge and expertise to achieve a home in the countryside. GRC can provide an expert advice and a free no-obligation assessment of whether your agricultural building can be converted.
